Top 10 Things To Do:

  • Stock Up at the Store - TxDPS suggests having a week’s worth of non-perishable food and water.
  • Medical - Be sure you have any needed prescriptions or medical supplies.
  • Pets – Be prepared to bring your small pets inside and plenty of food and water for them, along with any supplies such as kitty litter. 
  • Possible Power Outages - Be prepared for Power Outages with batteries, flashlights, battery operated radios, blankets and warm clothing. If you use a space heater, please view the safety instructions.
  • Electronics - Charge up your cell phones, laptops, and other electronic items.
  • Fireplaces - If you have a fireplace, have plenty of wood, and be sure the flues are free and clear of debris, and vented well.
  • Outdoor Pipes - Wrap any exposed outdoor pipes with protection from the weather. Drain any hoses, wrap your sprinkler heads, and out door faucets that you can.
  • Closings - Listen to local stations for any business or school closings.
  • Plants - Cover any fruit trees, or trees that are not used to cold weather to protect them from freezing and frost damage.
  • Stay Alive – Don’t drive! Please use caution while traveling any roadways - bridges freeze much sooner so take extra caution with any bridges or overpasses
